Who is the LER?

The Lincolnshire and East Riding (LER) Paranormal Investigation Team has been in existence in its earliest form since 2003 and was formalized under its present arrangements in December 2004. The LER is a private group of individuals from Hull, Lincolnshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire, professionals in many different ordinary jobs who investigate paranormal activity as a serious hobby. It neither charges for its work nor asks for donations, its funding comes entirely from the pockets of its members. It is not in competition for investigations with anyone else and the Team respects all groups in the UK amateur or professional who undertake this kind of activity.

The group has the services of mediums Barry and Shirley Ann who are based in Hull. Both are trained and qualified as spiritualist mediums.

What do we do?

The ethos of the group is to undertake a scientifically based investigation with the help of two experienced practising spiritual mediums looking for rational and paranormal explanations where it is appropriate for unexplained activity. We are not paid and there is no pressure for us to 'perform'. Indeed on one investigation in North East Lincolnshire, despite publicity on a huge amount of poltergeistal paranormal activity in a particular premise, we found no evidence of that activity. There was in fact other benign presence.

Investigations are undertaken with the guarantee of confidentiality unless the 'client' wishes or agrees otherwise. The guarantee of confidentially will be provided in writing if you wish it. We provide a confidential written report with the Team's findings following the conclusion of the investigation and we have the services of an historian for research. Health and safety is a prime concern for Team members and owners of premises and full H & S briefings are done prior to any investigation. Our equipment, including cameras, temperature gauges electro-magnetic field meters and trigger objects is perfectly safe, non intrusive and use no resources from the owners premises.

Want an investigation?

This is how we go about it. Firstly please contact us and talk to an experienced member. We will visit your premises with you present for an informal chat and discuss, in basic detail what it is you want investigating. We do not ask too many questions at this stage - in this way what the LER finds and reports on is an independent way of the owner verifying what, if anything is going on. We will want to take the opportunity to create a floor plan and take some basic information about the premises and how they operate on a day to day basis. We will ask questions about health and safety to ensure a smooth and safe investigation. Smoking is not permitted during any investigation. A mutually convenient date can then be worked out for an investigation.

One thing, don't forget, there's only one guarantee - there is NO guarantee that we will find anything and if there's nothing to find, we won't make it up! We haven't failed yet - but there's always a first time.

When do we investigate?

Opinions differ about when the best time to do an investigation. There is little difference in practice between day and night. Generally, night time observations and investigations allow for a greater concentration and is usually most convenient for the owner. Weekends again are most convenient as most of the LER Team have day jobs! The time taken for an investigation varies, but is usually not longer than six to eight hours maximum. More than one visit would normally not be needed, but if it is necessary, we will advise you accordingly. We bring our own refreshments and equipment and all we insist on is your presence or that of a representative for your own peace of mind and security.

How do we investigate?

We use a range of devices including expert spiritual mediums and electronic equipment, but just as importantly we use our senses and feelings. We look for sights and sounds, temperature differences and links to events or history. 'Evil spirits' are rare and in all our investigations have come across only one sad young male spirit in Hull who had good reason to hate his family and our mediums were happy to assist the young man in going 'to the light and to his guides' and thereby 'clearing' the premises of negative and uncomfortable feelings felt by a large range of people. This is a service we can provide whether or not the spirit presence is troublesome or not and we can put you in contact with our mediums for follow up private work of this kind if there needs to be any follow up.

Is there anything paranormal that we won't investigate?

We will not put Team members in physical danger at premises or locations which are unsafe. Unoccupied premises that are safe and certified by the owners as such are acceptable providing the owners are present during the investigation. 'Paranormal' is limited to spiritual and associated activity and does not include Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs), mythical creatures for example of the nature of the Loch Ness Monster (or in our case the River Humber Monster!), and we have no facilities for exploring wrecks underwater. If you have any doubt - talk to us about it.

Are there any charges?

Absolutely not! However if you want further private work through our mediums after the investigation is complete, that will be subject to negotiation between you and the mediums in a private arrangement that will not involve the LER.
